Default Stand and Deliver by Adam and the Ants is the greatest pop tune of all time - 26-02-2007, 14:59

There, I've said it. I felt that the Planet Boo forum would be the most suitable place to express my love for most probably the greatest song about being a dandy highwayman ever.

Everything about this song is amazing; the lyrical content explaining that Adam likes to "spend his cash on looking flash" and quipping "the way you look, you qualify for next year's old age pension." Genius.

What I think really sets this song apart from the rest is the backing vocals. It is as if Adam has some form of Tourettes. Marvel at his "wooaooahahoh" during the chorus, his yelp of excitement after the line "what's the point in robbery", and my personal favourite, the "Qua qua, diddly qua quas" during the coda and outro. Only the backing vocals of "Sco da bo" in Two Tribes by Frankie Goes to Hollywood come close.

And don't get me started on the amazing Burundi drums.

Yep, Mr Goddard burned very brightly, very quickly.

All the early singles were pure pop magic. The videos were hilarious as well.

You certainly wouldn't spill his pint these days. Jan Deal is correct though, 'Stand and Deliver' is awesome.

Adam used to go out with nudity-friendly Hollywood bombshell Heather Graham too, pre (her) fame. Handsome and talented, bastard.

That's got me started... off to get my copy of 'Dirk Wears White Sox' out and prance about now. Theatre, that's what's missing nowadays. Having said that, the new Christina Aguilera video... sigh... pity the song's gash though.
