Default Boopoll Of The Week (101)

So that's it then. On Sunday the last ever 'Top Of The Pops' crept out with a whimper - cue loads of archive footage of stuff we've already seen a hundred times, plus some newer stuff of mainly American hip-hop artists getting the chance to holler some kind of vowelly challenged address to the 'Twap Af Duh Pahps' audience.
So no more primetime programmes that just have the most popular music of the day - Pop as a democracy is dead, pop is no longer popular, so if you want access to it, you're going to have to buy it. After all, pop music is a 'niche activity', just another one of those things they have a channel for.
RIP TOTP.

The last ever Top of the Pops was quite an anti-climax I thought. A better send out (since they weren't bothering with any new footage of artists) would have been half an hour of Pans People performances-full length ones. Maybe thrown in one or two from Legs & co for good measure.
Instead, and very much in the tradition of the BBC these days, the send off was lacklustre and pretty irrelevant.

have to agree with mel, was slightly disappointed with the last show, i was disappointed that there were no studio performances, thought it would have been nice to get some bands in the studio to perform hits one last time.

but fuck yeah i miss it totp has been part of me weekly routine as long as i remember! it'll be back

The BBC did say that they weren't going to have any bands on for the last show. I enjoyed the look back over time, but I hadn't watched the show for many years, and can't say I'll really miss it, it had its time, I can remember waiting for new video to be played on TOTP, but now we live in such dispossable times. I can download a music video in under a minute, why would I want to wait until Thursday?
