...thankfully she gets hold of some great pop songs... 'Some Girls', her latest, is very nice, despite borrowing 90% of its appeal from 'Strict Machine' by Goldfrapp. This is pop after all, and there are different rules where plagiarism is concerned. This is good plagiarism. Richard X is a cheeky scamp.

but....rachel is like a sexless goldfrappe with fake tan and a hollyoaks hairdoo
jolly nice pop true, and the synthess in the production is pretty cool, but also lacking the intangable thingy-ness that makes great pop great pop alison is so provocative holding that theremin its worrying (in an exquisite way) but rachel just does well choreographed moves that say nothing about whats going on inside her fucked up head (apart from ''I want a hit record kids....pleeeeeeze'') so......erm, she shoud be shot in the mouth with a big shiney gun yes/no/delete* reverse plagarism would be better...... sugary pop plagarised into something darker, but this way round does nothing pour moi except make me think everything good will be shit one day Last edited by betamax; 21-06-2004 at 17:35. |

Yes, Rachel Stevens I agree is emotionless, and, far worse, sexless... whereas Ms Goldfrapp is the exact opposite... sex...
The point I was getting at is pop has always and will always be a magpie, grabbing whatever shiny trinkets it can find, wherever they lay, and building a nest with them. I just prefer my shiny trinkets to be grabbed from electronic femme fatales or androgynous rock gods or Bollywood films than West End Musicals or 80s hair rock or... Sting... On a similar theme, the new 'Girls Aloud' single - lyrically very clever and musically intriguing. Second album as well... Now who would have thought of that?!

i prefer magpies to pop producers who nick good ideas and reduce / repackage it for Woolworths
having said that my favorite pop single (other than anything by Alvin Stardust) is 'State of Mind' by Holly Valance I bought it in Woolworths with a bag of sweets but Girls Aloud are absolutely fucking terrifying......all council estate chic, fat backs and big arms.....theres a place on union street where they all go for happy hour and cheap vodka promotions......steer clear cos they are really good fighters....its those big shoulders they get from standing up all day gutting fish and throwing knives down the docks I tried listening to 'sound of the Underground' with an open mind after your wee rave about it, but still its appeal passed me by....but yeh, I can see theres obviously some behind the scenes competent writing and production propping up the skanky wenches big pop magpie nest with perfectly formed poos in it? |

I love their songs, but you're right, I wouldn't want to spill their pint...
Strangely enough, one of the greatest moments in pop in my opinion is the theme from popular ITV show 'Magpie' ('Blue Peter' for working class kids) by The Murgatroyd Band.
