I came into posession of a leaflet this week which will be pushed through the letterboxes of Scotland very soon. Beneath the headline 'ASYLUM IS MAKING BRITAIN EXPLODE' there is a picture of what seems to be a group of Asians burning a Union Jack. However, a rudimentary knowledge of physics and/or Photoshop will tell you this is a faked picture, with flames superimposed on a completely innocent scene of some people just holding a flag.... Yup, the BNP are fighting the Euro Elections the only way they know how... This is the text that follows >>>

TERRORIST TIME BOMB : Asylum is allowing hundreds of 'asylum bombers' to plan their atrocities in Britain. The Madrid train bombings have been linked to Moroccan 'asylum seekers' in London. The security services warn there are at least 4000 Islamic extremists in Britain who have trained at al-Qaeda terrorist camps. Letting in even more is madenss.

ASYLUM TIME BOMB: Asylum is pushing our services, benefits system and NHS to bursting point. Diseases such as TB and AIDS are exploding while pensioners die waiting for hospital beds. There are 2 million illegal immigrants & 'asylum seekers' in Britain already with thousands more flooding in each week. Labour is now fast-tracking 'asylum seekers' as 'economic migrants' in an attempt to cover up the flood. Britain is dying for a change and you won't get it from the Tories. Con party leader Michael Howard let in 156 000 under the last Tory govt.

EU TIME BOMB : British membership of the EU has blown away our borders and control over our won legal system. Since May 1st 75 million potential migrants from Eastern Europe - including hundreds of thousands of gypsies - can now walk into Britain and live here at our expense. 97% of all asylum applications are found to be bogus yet still the politicians do nothing to stop the flood and protect us. Scotland has had enough.

FINANCIAL TIME BOMB : Asylum is blowing a massive hole in our pockets. In 2003 asylum cost us £4 billion. This year the figure is likely to explode to more than [b]£5 billion. That's money that is being stolen from our schools, hospitals, housing, public transport and pensions. And to rub salt into our wounds the government is now forcing us to pay even higher taxes to subsidise the mess.

HOUSING TIME BOMB : Asylum is ripping apart our countryside. The government is already planning to spend £125 billion of taxpayer's money to build five giant new cities - each the size of Birmingham - over the next 30 years to house over 5 million new immigrants. Southern England is full up so Scotland is next - the politicians are letting their developer friends bury our green and pleasant land undernath a sea of concrete. Scotland can't take any more.

... and so it goes on, saying the BNP will get rid of the asylum seekers, Europeans and anyone looking at them funny, reclaiming the streets for the decent, law-abiding people, having a go at 'political correctness', saying that "the majority of racist attacks are carried out against white people", and ending with the slogan, "Ordinary people like you are voting BNP'.

So, what do you think? Should people be allowed to promote this kind of hatred through lies and twistede half-truths? Should I have even copied these words at all? Speaking as one who was active in the Anti Nazi League in years gone by I have strong feelings on the BNP - I marched on their headquarters in 93 after they got a councillor elected in Tower Hamlets and was caught up in the ensuing ruck with the police. I was angry and frustrated, passionate about democracy and the right of freedom of speech, but also furious at the way the BNP had played to people's fears and paranoia in deprived areas to twist situations to their advantage....

So, censor and legislate or 'laissez-faire' and educate?

Their leaflet regarding the planned construction of a mosque in the beach area is equally, if not more laughable.

There's no need to censor them. Most 'ordinary people like you' will laugh at this sort of literature. Outlaw them and they become heroes for their cause. Leave them be and they will alienate themselves entirely of their own accord.

although their views are rascist etc, they shouldn't be censored as it's discrimination and goes against their Freedom Of Speech.

No. That would undermine the provision in the Human Rights Act 1998 which protects freedom of speech which is a fundamental part of a democratic society.

Fuck freedom of speech, their ideas and policies are laughable. I think freedom of speech is great but the BNP shouldnt even exist in any shape or form. They are, IMHO not a credible party

The BNP claim their right to free speech, but they would be the first ones to deny it to others if they ever got in to power. If anyone from the BNP or NF approaches me, I am going to smash their fucking skull like an eggshell and that's a promise.

I got this leaflet too, and it actually made me think.
"They're even more fucking idiotic than i believed possible", I thought.
Let them keep churning out this stuff. The phrase "Give 'em enough rope" springs to mind.
