Default Boopoll Of The Week (22)

I remember when Kurt Cobain died, thinking, "Stupid fucker". I still think that. I had an earnest discussion with a middle-aged gentleman this week who was asking what all the fuss was about. "Was he really that good?" he asked. I replied that yes, he probably was, but we'll never know for sure, as he took the coward's way out. Now because he chose to blast off his head, leaving a fatherless child in the care of a fucked-up harpie, his work will never be properly critically reappraised.
After two weeks staying down South at a home with loads of music channels, all running back to back anniversary RIP Nirvanafests, I find myself pig sick of Cobain and if he weren't already dead I think I'd go round and stove his head in meself.

i was kind of torn between answer 2 and answer 4, i loved nirvana's music but also loved a lot of the other grunge bands such as pearl jam and mudhoney. as morrissey said in the NME this week 'death is the best commercial tool an artist can have'

there's never been someone to replace him as 'the voice of a generation' though really. certainly not anyone that had the underground-mainstream crossover appeal.

and no Fredrick Durst does not count.

Answer number 4 !!!!

A poor mans Sidney Vicious

And all the songs he wrote were just a load of moaning dull angst ridden shite.....at the time, the grungey noise they made was kinda new (if you had never heard the Pixies that is) and not completely dull, but after being bored shitless and force fed ten zillion moaning fake angst shitey copy bands for the last billion zillion years, I too would join the queue to punch the wee junkie twat in the face if was was still peddling his suicidal stadium rock

The whole anniversary revival is pure corporate marketing and exploitation...... I agree with Morrissey on that one......Chocolate flavoured Kurt Cobain souvenir anyone?

i always take nirvana on face value - i.e. the music and the songs, they're certainly a damn sight more important since he blew his head off but as betamax says its pure exploitation, cobain in the position he was in had a duty of responsiblity, predicatably just after it happened there were copy cat suicides and copy cat bands, hell you still see bands who rip off nirvana now.

now if he had lived, i reckon nirvana would have ambled on with a stadium rock career path similar to that of pearl jam

of course there's all the 'he was murdered' theories as well but i never read into those....

I just bit the head off my Chocolate Souvenir Anniversary Kurt Cobain (£2.99 at all good record shops) and a little pink marshmallow ''brain'' fell out.....now melting in my mouth.....yum.......nice touch.

That's not marshmallow - You've actually got the special edition one with real brain in it, lovingly scraped off the walls at the time. If you get a cruchy bit, spit it out - you don't want to get lead poisoning now, do you?
