i havent heard anything about this from the staff, and i was in there today... i think it's just the fact that there are usually about 30 of you guys, and like only 2 ppl buy anything...

EDIT: any idea which member of staff it was that said this?? even a description of them would be handy

Don't blame Drummonds atall. Why should the staff have to put up with kids sitting around and ordering tap water all day when they work in a bar (ie) a place for adults.

i can't believe the attitudes of people in this thread. you'd think you'd never been underage or something.

if people under 18 are doing no harm and just going in during the day then what's the problem letting them in? obviously it's drummonds perogative but just blaming it on them not drinking beer is a bit silly. particularly as there's probably more profit in soft drinks than in alcoholic ones.

No blaming here surely? Drummonds has decided it doesn't want that clientele. End of!

What i was saying was firmly tongue in cheek.

However, as underage goes we are talking people of 15/16 hanging around in there during the day/evening which is slightly different from sneaking in there at night. Kilau is just across the road if they want somewhere to go and natter and drink soft drinks and the ambassador is less than 10mins walk if they're desperate to play pool.

I don't think its anything to do with not drinking beer, I'm guessing there's been complaints from adults who don't fancy kids running around during the day calling each other n00bs and what have you and irritating them whilst they are having their paying to have their lunch or a quiet drink with their friends/collegues. Its not a social club its a licensensed premises.

Oh yes!

Pubs/other licenced places are on a bit of a knife-edge as far as unescorted underagers are concerned & the new licencing laws redefined the responsabilities of licencees & made them liable if anyone over 18 other than a parent bought or or even allowed an underager to consume alcohol. I can cee their concerns, especially if a large mixed-age group gathers. All it could need is one person to take the piss & they could be in pretty deep shit. I think I read something about spot-checks on pub underagers being stepped-up recently?

Also, admission of people between 14 or 18 has always been entirely at the licencee's discretion so maybe it will change a bit once whatever concerns have passed.

hit the nail on the head.

i don't think they even buy soft drinks either. one of the bar staff told me of an example of a typical transaction:

customer: how much is a coke?
staff: £1.20
customer: how much are the nuts?
staff: 60p
customer: can i have a glass of water then please.
