Default Th' Legendary Shack*Shakers

Rootin Aboot: Th' Legendary Shack*Shakers, Neck
Friday 08 April 2005 - Café
Tickets £10 (£6.75 concessions & regulars)

Doors Open: 8pm
Show Starts: 9pm

Something a little different for Rootin Aboot as we present a night of roots music from the margins with a definite outlaw worldview. Headliners Th' Legendary Shack*Shakers are one of the world's greatest live bands and they're ably supported by paddypunkers Neck.
Th Legendary Shack*Shakers are widely acclaimed as one of the finest live experiences in the US. Led by demented singer/harmonica player Colonel JD Wilkes they have succeeded in melding the rural, agri-dustrial rhythms of America's puritan work ethic, the intensity of gutbucket blues, the dark underbelly of country and even the madcap oompah of polka.

Over the last five years, London-Irish band Neck have firmly established themselves as a leading force in the folk-punk scene, their irrepressible psycho-ceilidh sound marking them out as transatlantic cousins of Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys. The 6-piece band combines the swirling abandon of traditional Irish music (fiddle, tin-whistle, banjo and uilleann pipes) with the rip-roaring electric guitar, bass & drums of a full-on punk band. All topped-off with the raucous, passionate vocals of song-smith Leeson O'Keeffe formerly of Shane MacGowan's Popes.

Th' Legendary Shack Shakers are fooking amazing, hell-for-leather death country. Totally recommended.

From the looks of their website and a couple of tunes I've heard, it should be a great night.

I got the Cockledoodledon't album a while ago, and it's been stuck in my player since. Having seen some footage of them playing live this is one show I'm bouncing off the walls with excitement about. I wonder if they'll have the midget with them...
