Formed in Cardiff in 1968,Their self-titled debut was released in 1971 followed by Squawk in 1972. The album that followed ensured their place in rock and roll history, Never turn Your Back on a Friend (1973), spawning the rock anthem "Breadfan" later covered by thrash metal merchants Metallica as the b-side to the "Harvester of Sorrow" single, who also covered "Crash course in brain surgery" on their "Garage Days Revisited" EP. Budgie disbanded in 1983, but reformed in 1999. Remembered by rock fans for their graphic song titles such as 'In The Grip Of The Tyre-Fitters Hands' and 'Hot As A Dockers Armpit', Budgie were a major influence on many of today's top metal bands.
