Default Bands needed to play in The Bobbin

The Bobbin bar on King Street is going to be staging a series of band nights this term, at a rate of maybe one a month. They are looking for established local acts to play at these nights, alongside touring/out of town bands. They have specified that no metal/emo/hardcore/noise bands need apply. Student-friendly indie/alt people would be ideal.

If you're interested, contact me either by PM or by replying to this thread.

could be read as "we are not interested in music whatsoever, simply trying to cash in on what is popular currently and we intend to drop it as soon as takings (i.e. when our clueless sugar drinking clientele start complaining about this type of music and move on to another kind of mindless shite) are down"

i dont understand why they wouldnt want emo bands. they are less offensive than most indie bands around

I agree totally with Maxi on this one. Most Alt-Indie bands are lumped in as 'emo' bands these days anyway. Seems like they're just missing out to me. I can maybe understand them not putting on metal/hardcore/noise bands as people who like them are in a minority and those sort of bands would have a limited draw amongst the student community. Just seems a bit closed minded to me though.

I think it's possibly the people in charge of Bobbin being scared that if they took on a heavy act then it will drive people away.

I remember in Triple Kirks on Friday night, someone put Iron Maiden on the "jukebox" and the manager skipped the song claiming "it's not friday night music".
I'm sure that preached some sort of consumer right.

They're just trying to do something a bit different entertainment-wise. The people behind it definitely care about music, but of course business considerations are paramount. The bands who do play will get a decent sum and probably pick up some new fans. Ten Easy Wishes, Little Kicks and Crashdown played last month, they all enjoyed it, and it was a fantastic atmosphere in the pub.

Strictly over-18s only, for both bands and customers. That's why no emo.

I have seen that kind of attitude too. The funny thing is that Iron Maiden is not even heavy.

I also agree with Maxi, it just seems like a no-brainer event for people who have panic attacks if they venture further than Portlethen.

Ironically there are bands that are not "safe" in Aberdeen and who generate decent crowds.

that is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard/observed from your way...

most people that i know who are interested in emo are generally much older than the majority of students/drinkers in the bobbin

I don't want to become a student if it means I have to start listening to nothing but indie. And not even good indie, T4 music friendly indie

I was listening to emo before you had to start shaving.

I know what emo is, what it means, the major players involved in the scene and the demographics involved. All I'm saying is that the Bobbin isn't interested in that side of things.
