If you put in your band name a local manager comes to talk to you and then tells you how much your 'enrolement fee' is...ie: how much it costs to pay to play....im interested in doing this just to see how much the scam would cost....

Last year, the enrollment fee was £45, and you get a hundred tickets to sell for the event. After you sell your first fifty, you get to keep a pound from each ticket that you sell. Until you sell ninety-five tickets, you're gonna be out of pocket.

On top of that, unless you're very crowd-pleasing rock, you won't get very far in the competition, as the crowd won't vote for you. (I merely make this remark because I gather Project: Ven-Hell aren't really in the vein of crowd-pleasing rock.) Also, playing early is the kiss of death—no allowance is made for the fact that the first few bands on have vastly fewer audience members to vote for them than the later acts.

Its true...we arent crowd pleasing rock...

But i dont want to play anyway! We get our own gigs that people pay us for!

Pay to play sickens me...expoitation of young people/niave people who think this will be a big break or something...should be outlawed....

Sounds rubbish... these things never do anything for the bands anyway. I've heard that, "Sony scout" story countless times... funny that... I've met people from all across the board from PRS to MTV and I have yet to meet one of these "Sony scouts". I'm beginning to think they don't exist.

Two Sony BMG publishing scouts blagged their way into the Caribou gig and were never seen or heard of again. Not even a thank-you.
