I have a Roland TD6 electronic kit which has a mesh head snare. The mesh head is very quiet. The rest of the pads are rubber and you notice a difference between them and the mesh head. The rubber pads sound like driving nails in with a rubber hammer. The rubber bass drum is the loudest so I just got a mesh head bass drum to replace it. Still the rubber pads are not that bad compared to a fully accoustic kit, but Pearl do mesh heads for normal size accoustic kits so if you have the space and can live with the hassle of changing the heads back and forth this maybe an option. Hope this helps.
