Default Your favourite chords?

What are they:

Here are some nice ones:

I make it a D9sus4 (is that right?) Works well in the key of Eminor.

e---0-----
B---3-----
G---0-----
D---4-----
A---5-----
E---x------

I think this is C#9. Used in dream theater's 'Take the Time'. Lovely.

e---0-----
B---0-----
G---8-----
D---6-----
A---4-----
E---x------

This one I made up myself and the chord position can be used anywhere and moved about the fretboard. This would be used as the A# chord (VI) in the key of Dminor. It sounds beautiful. I think its an A#7sus2.

e---5-----
B---6-----
G---5-----
D---8-----
A---x-----
E---x------

That could be an Fmaj add4...

That's two that are in favour just now, can't let you in on the cool ringy made up ones.

That D is part of the introductory riff for REM's find the river.

I like add9's as in :

e------3
b------3
g------0
d------0 G add9
a------2
e------3

and

e---3
b---3
g---0
d---2 C add9
a---3
e---0

That's a Dsus2. Very common chord, play about with it a D and Dsus4 and you'll be surprised the number of songs you'll recognise.

The first works out as a G6 (but with no 5th)

And Ian is right with the Dsus2

How about this little diminshed guy!?!?

e---3-----
B---4-----
G---3-----
D---2-----
A---x-----
E---x-----

Works really well moved up or down in minor 3rds i.e.

e---3-----
B---4-----
G---3-----
D---2-----
A---x-----
E---x-----

e---6-----
B---7-----
G---6-----
D---5-----
A---x-----
E---x-----

e---9-----
B---10---
G---9-----
D---8-----
A---x-----
E---x-----

etc...

Try laying some of these chords down (this example is in E minor i think..) then messing about with the symetrical(sp!?!) whole tone/half tone scale over the top e.g.

e--3--5--6----5--6--8----6--8--9----8--9--11-- etc....

You can get some really cool little ideas from a combination of those dim chords and this little beauty.

God I love having a guitar lesson on the same day as one of these threads appears.... gives the illusion of me actually knowing something

That isn't an add9, its just a G.

For it to be a G add9 there would have to be an A note in there somewhere.
