anyone know where to find such a thing? i've got a friend looking for some for his bass guitar...

Why not just make them?

Go to Retro Rebels and find a necklace or something with the right size of 8ball, buy it, take it apart and drill the right sized hole in so it fits tightly onto the control shaft of the pots.

Yeah I was going to suggest trying to find small 8 balls somewhere then drill a hole in them though I didn't have any suggestions on were to get them from.

it's for my friend and neither he nor i have the tools nor the time to do that...
