DJ 'Fluff' Freeman dies aged 79
Alan Freeman
Alan Freeman joined the BBC from Australia in 1960
Veteran DJ Alan "Fluff" Freeman, whose "Not 'arf" catchphrase made him a household name, has died aged 79.

The former BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2 presenter had been living in a nursing home in London since 2000 after being diagnosed with arthritis.

Freeman joined the BBC in 1960 after a spell working in his native Australia.

His Pick of the Pops programme - with its distinctive theme tune and his "greetings, pop pickers" introduction - saw him become one of the UK's top DJs.

A great inspiration for Smashie and Nicey but also a champion of rock music throughout the 60's-80's.

That's very sad. He was a consummate professional and a great champion of music in all its forms. He will be missed.

Absolutely.

He didn't hide behind gimmicks, just played the music and was enthusiatic about everything.

A real loss.

That's John Peel, Tommy Vance & Fluff gone now, there's nae c*nt left

T.V. died March 2005 (stroke). I used to love his Friday night show on R1

Ah! Now I remember. I had a lot on my mind back then so I wasn't in a position to be mindful of certain events.
