Default Flyposting Pillars to be Erected Around Town

Was reading the Aberdeen Citizen - the free paper that clogs up your letterbox - on the throne this morning and I see they're going to be putting up "pillars" around town for gigs & local events to be advertised.

they're going to be on Belmont Street, Justice Mill Lane, West North Street and a few other places I can't remember.

About time, I say.

Not difficult to track down a band or venue being that all the information of where you can find the 'offenders' is on the poster!

Bout time an all for this to happen. Walk along almost any street in Glasgow and the hordings or boarded up shop windows are 'ligitimately' covered in large posters giving the impression and the sense of a vibrancy to the city. Come to Aberdeen and unless you are buying a cd or going for a cofee at Kilau, or already at gig, then it doesn't appear if there is much happening... Maybe why it seems like a dull city to visit...

Past conversations suggest that you pay a fee and hand over the posters and someone else puts them... Council though so they may go up weeks after the gig...

Odds on them being dominated by local corporate owned nightclub promotion, anyone? I know it's a cynical view, but I don't believe for a minute that they're not going to have a part of the pie.

Edit : aren't "flyposting pillars" a terribly dated concept? Some sort of video screen advertising would make far more sense...couldn't they use the information terminals instead?
