New albums out by TEXTURES and SCAR SYMMETRY... - aberdeen-music

Both fucking incredible. Textures especially, should really be more widely acclaimed than they are.

Both bands are extremely musically gifted, but don't play the tech-for-tech-sake game. If you are into metal you could do far worse than to check them both out.

Manager at my work brought the scar symmetry album in yesterday had it pretty much playing the whole day.
To be honest it left me very indifferent , it seemed one minute its full of death metal then ballads ahoy then slight mix of power metal and thrash.
Can see why alot of folk will like them though.

I can where you're coming from. I personally would prefer it slightly if their death metal vocals weren't quite so death metal, and the clean bits weren't quite so clean - but then again they would then sound just like Soilwork.

From a guitar point of view, their solos are brilliant; really well written and both technical and tasteful, which is hard to do successfully!

The solo's remind me very much of new age dream theater , alot of prog going on while the solo's shred out.

Might download the album just to give it a proper perspective.

I wouldn't say they're THAT thrashy, although there are elements here and there. Not compared to someone like Darkane for example.

To me, they sound like Meshuggah playing Devin Townsend songs, with a hefty dose of Soilwork, the Haunted and Pantera thrown in for good measure. New album is wicked, great ideas all the way through and some brilliant drumming.
