Hiya, I am writing to you either because you are likely to be interested,
or you are in contact with persons who may be interested in the formation of an Aberdeen based Collective/Network concerned with the promotion/production of "unpigeonholed" music.
Commonly referred to as experimental, abstract, free improvised, or individualist music, there appears to be a lack of support and outlets for this non-genre, and the disadvantage that the common descriptive terms conjure up all the wrong musical reference points. And yet, very few people , if asked, will say they DONT like experimental music!

WHY?
Because....
* It's a lot of fun.
* It can expand a musicians creative repertiore.
* It is liberating, revealing, and therapeutic.
* It can provide a transitional experience for musos "stuck" in a genre, or who feel they
have "dried up" or run out of ideas.
* It is inclusive, relying more on expression and imagination than technical ability.
* It is thought provoking.
* It can inspire
* It is flexible.....i.e. it does not demand a structure which compromises the integrity of its
creative elements
* Lots of other reasons!!!!

THE PLAN.
Myself and Sandy Mathers are taking the lead in forming a group of interested parties with the aim of at least putting said parties in touch with one another, and at best kick starting a project which will continue to function with a common purpose.
We would like to call a meeting of all those interested to discuss what form those individuals believe the project should take.

But first!!!!!.....

****** WE NEED ALL INTERESTED PARTIES TO DECLARE AN INTEREST!******

All you need to do is respond to this email with the word " Interested " ( or "I'm experiMENTAL" ) and we will invite you to all future meetings/events, and keep you up to date with the goss!
Hope to hear from you, with your support, this could be bloody exciting!

Fred Wilkinson.
