Default No Big Names Please Were Aberdeen

Although Aberdeen have seen band like Oasis and Babyshambles pass through here, we never seem to pull the same spectrum of acts that places like Glasgow or Manchester do, granted they are bigger citys but we have the crowds and we have the venue's..

The A.E.C.C is one of the biggest wastes of money i can think of, how often does that venue get used??? You wouldn't see the likes of The Barrowlands, S.E.C.C or Carling Academy sitting unused for more than 2 weeks at the most??

Recent tours like Richard Ashcroft, Chemical Brothers, The Strokes etc could you ever imagine any half decent bands playing up here.. Fair enough we get one or two but thats it..

Well Morrissey is playing so the rumours go. I heard AC/DC are playing too. Besides, its not just used as a music venue.

The AECC gets used all the time, it's just rarely used as a gig venue. Corporate hospitality events and exhibitions are more cost effective and more acceptable to the local community.

I think you overestimate the level of interest Aberdonians would have in the acts you mentioned. Maybe, on a good night, the Strokes would sell out the AECC, but only with a couple of decent support acts. And if these bands started to come here on a regular basis, the attraction would quickly fade as people came to realise that the AECC is (a) a crap venue and (b) usually full of idiots.

We get lots of good up and coming acts in Aberdeen, and it's always more fun to catch them playing out of their skins in a smaller venue than watch some bored superstar churn out the hits in an aircraft hangar anyway.
