...You pensively push open the large, creaky wooden door, permitting you entrance to the fabled Moorings bar. A dingy, darkened olde worlde ale-house, that fills your lungs with the salty and burnt smell of a taught hauser rope being slowly rubbed up and down the stern of a large sea-going ship... You toss the doorkeep a couple of rusty coins from the warm depths of your heavy jacket pocket, surveying the mottley abaddon of creatures that prop, lurk and peer from every nook of this imposing retreat..... The dark and stained colour of the bar greets you, reflecting the shadows of the bustling harem of the damned inhabitants.... You peer slowly up through partially opened eyes, stuttering to the lost soul who recoils slightly across the large slab of oak... "p-p-p-pint of l-l-l-l-l-lager p-p-p-please..!"... Grasping warily at the cold, wet glass, you spill some of the contents as you hurridly move away, pushing slowly further into the gloom towards the heaving mass of bodies beyond you in the depths... The shapes flit and dart past you, looking like some kind of ethereal spirits, toying and playing with your nerves as they fly across your field of vision... Your ears shriek to your mind as they begin to distill the gaggle of noise enveloping you as you proceed.... Among the cries and screams of those around you, you notice music... Lilting, lurching and grinding its way along over your eardrums, past your aural receptors and right to the centre grey matter of your brain... Large, imposing figures with twisted instruments wretch and tear the chords and notes from the depths of their souls, hurling them into the darkness and beyond.... A river runs red from their faces and the platform which they inhabit, pooling on the floor nearby... A gaggle of demon-like forms writhe in the midst of it all, limbs convulsing in time to the hurdy-gurdy of noise.... And in the center of it all stands a form which you do not recognise... Neither man nor beast.... More.... GHOUL.... You stop abruptly, unsure whether to proceed further.... But the bodies surrounding you push, pull, tearing at you to pull you beyond where you stand... Closer and closer.... The ghoulish figure looms ever larger.... The words it utters seem to be muddled in your head, lumbering along with the cacophony of music... A smile spreads across its twisted features.... You seem paralysed with fear and wonder.... Its hand outstretches slowly towards, yet you can do nothing.... Your heart shrieks with terror as it slowly eases from your ribcage, arteries going taught and ripping like over-stretched rubber bands.... A look of both shock and serenity spreads across you, as you watch the last few throbs of life leave your heart.... The music becomes a tirade of crushing volume as you descend towards the floor.... Your vision narrows and breath shallows as the life slowly creeps from your body, to be lapped up and spread around by the heaving mass of figures all around you... A fleeting thought travels through the last impulses of your mind... "What has gone on here??".... Only to be met with blackness as you cease to be.... You shall not ever see another Karloff gig, my fiend...!!
