Since this forum is sooooo metal, does anyone else here like Belle and Sebastian? I love them. "The Boy With the Arab Strap" is the most poetic album since... Morrissey's "Vauxhall & I".
Fey indie they may be. But that's no bad thing! Why emphasise agression etc in the musical emotional palette? |

Oh thank God, a non-metal thread. All we seem to get these days is discussions about bands with names that sound like skin diseases.
*NOTE: that was a light-hearted comment designed to provoke chuckles. Don't go emo on my ass, anyone...* Yeah, Belle and Sebastian, a personal favourite of mine. Stuart Murdoch's subject material is often pretty dark stuff, but juxtaposed with the loveable twee wetness of the music it all fits together beautifully. I was really dreading "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" when it came out. With Trevor Horn producing and Isobel Campbell having departed it could have been a disaster, but I think it's probably their best album. Has anyone heard Isobel's solo stuff? The Gentle Waves albums don't have the lyrical dexterity of classic B+S, but the innocence and twee abandon are so perfectly charming. |
