Default True Punk = Girl Power

Yes duriing the early hours this thought has come to mind.
Is there much difference between people believing in the old punk ethics and those who grapsed onto girl power during the 90's. What i mean is they both lived their lives basied around ethics assosiated with the music that they listend to. fair enough there are differences in the specific beliefs but the general idea is the same is it not? also is it not true that figureheads of the movement that inspire the followers to do the same, in essence the same as Nazi Germany, Girl Power, Punk or any movement inspired by a specific cultural time, place and figuerehead

To quote a bearded man,

i mean whats the difference between a bunch of punks taking an ethos based around a usical idea and a bunch of teenage girls doing the same, who's to say which ethos is right and wrong, it could be argued that girl power had as much an effect on its intended audience as punk did at least people realised it was silly

I agree with this completely to be honest. The whole thing just wreeks of another set of people trying to think they are better than everyone else like emo kids, goths, neds, .......oops.......

Suggest you check out the work of Riot Grrrl - a movement which preceded this girl power nonsense. Girl power was a mere selling point - an ad man's dream. And there lies the difference. It was formed in the minds of businessmen. It was not, as punk was, a genuine product of disaffection.
For Riot Grrrl think Bikini Kill, Huggy Bear, Bratmobile...
