Is it the best of all time or the new talent list you're looking for?

Anyway I know we're not the only people who have had our faith in local bands affirmed by The Needles over the years so you're completely and utterly wrong. I have various friends who know no local bands at all but they know The Needles.
What I meant was that there really is no substance to their songs. Lyrically they're just nonsense and musically they are so contrived and unoriginal. They are entertainment not art.

I'm getting some copies of the booklet sent up to Aberdeen so they'll be around the obvious places. If you want to pm me I can get one to you.

I don't think they'd disagree with that last sentence, but isn't that the point of rock n' roll?

They're not breaking new ground, they're filling in the gaps of what's gone before in a highly stylised but entertaining way. The Needles are a rock n' roll band that plays-gasp-rock n' roll. The best thing about them is their un-pretentiousness.

You don't need to break new ground in order to not be a totally contrived rehash. I just don't like novelty bands.

But they're not a novelty band. They're just a band that don't try and hide their influences. And they write some fucking great songs.

A rehash of what, exactly? I can't think of any band that comes close to what the Needles are producing right now. Sure, you can come up with a mathematical formula that would involve elements of Eddie Cochran, The Vagrants, The Sonics, Elvis Costello and Booker T and the MG's, but it still wouldn't produce the Needles as the end result.

The Needles exist in order to produce entertaining rock n' roll shows and catchy three minute pop singles. If that makes them a novelty band, so be it. Their raison d'etre is no different from Elvis in '56, The Who in '65 or The Buzzcocks in '77.
