I am a big fan of Ginger and having seen the WH loads of times going back to 93/94 yet I have to agree if he's only now coming to these conclusions then he's bloody slow. There hasn't been a strong proper indie scene since the mid 90's. I always find it really amusing here that there are so many local bands who go on about the power of the indies and how they'd rather sign to a tiny indie than a major, well they're the same entity they're out to make money and fairplay to them. The difference is, signing to major will give you a stronger likelihood of getting the big gigs and the money, which at the end of the day is what a lot of it's about - at least to a degree, no point in doing it and losing money, you'll very rarely make money on an indie, and how strong does an indie have to be before it becomes a major ? Is independiente a major or an indie ?

Ginger is lucky enough to have used a major to get him a following that allows him to survive like this now, a lot of other artists aren't so lucky and it's doubtfull as to whether without the backing of a major if he's be in a position to spout his words to so many, talk about biting the hand that got you there.

Cheers

Stuart

The thing is, EastWest did next to fuck all for the WH. The pulled singles, didn't push them to radio and stopped their tour support when they were in the US with AC/DC. Craziness.

Just major labels innit...

The Wildheart were also more an Album band than a singles band.

I barely ever saw a Wildhearts single. JUst bought the albums.

It`s almost 9 years since the Wildhearts were at their peak

No way! The WH are a singles band all the way!

my first real exposure (not include a dodgy copy of an ablum I had lying around tape but ignored) to the wildhearts was through their singles. seeing them on top of the pops with a cool skull and crossbones guitar playing "I wanna go where the people go".

Except giving them the money to record some damn fine albums... it's very easy to have a go at the majors but would the band be the same without them ? As to not pushing them, do you know that ? Isn't it possible that the WH are really not just a strong singles band, they did have a successfull career, it could be argued more successfull than came after. Everyone's so quick to jump on the majors, if a major offered me hard cash for any of the acts I managed I'd get them to sign up in a second !!

Cheers
