is this a genuine label? or is he just avoiding the fact he's an emo kid?

it's a genuine label, but you don't hear of it much these days.

If someone looks emo then they wouldn't be described art punk, I hope that's not the next title to be adopted by that lot, it'd be an insult to bands that do genuinely get called "art punk"...

as far as I know it was a label given to a few bands during the 80's. The only main one I can think of is Sonic Youth but I'm guessing there would've been other bands labelled with it too (possibly Mudhoney and their like?)

sonic youth weren't grunge, they're too atonal. Ask Johnny or someone with a bit of experience under their belt.
