Default copying from Sky+ to dvd / hard drive

haven't copied anything from Sky+ before but my brother has loads of stuff recorded that I wanna get rid of so probably looking to buy a hard drive / dvd combo thingy but was wondering what folks on here use, been reading up on the net about various methods of getting recorded tv onto other mediums, so might try out my PC first to see if it can hook up...

You could use a standalone DVD recorder, or if you can get some sort of interface into your computer you can do it that way.

I just use a DVD recorder linked by a SCART lead from the SKY+ then a SCART into the TV.

All i need to do is then select SCART as the source on the DVD menu (rather than, say, TV) and press record, start the program on SKY+ and away you go.

Only "hassle" is that you've to watch the program in real time from beginning to end.

I looked around for a laptop solution without success, using a DVD recorder then ripping the DVDs to the PC ended up being less hassle.

i just bought a dvd recorder from tesco for ten pounds, yes ten whole pounds, and it still works, 2 days after hooking it up! sometimes it pays to wait for technology, next i may get a games console, well unless anything hasn't superseded my dreamcast?
