Default Oscar Nominations announced.

I've only seen one of the movies up for Best Picture so I best get my finger out and see the other 4. Heath Ledger has got a Best Supporting Actor nod, which will please a lot of people, and Mickey Rourke for the Wrestler is up for Best Actor, which will also please a lot of people. "Doubt" seems to have a lot of nominations, I've never heard of it, but Philip Seymour Hoffman makes any film watchable, so I'll probably try to see that. Robert Downey Jr for Tropic Thunder is an odd one, as the Academy tends to ignore comedy films. And horror for that matter. Bastards. Where's Johnny Depp's Oscar eh?!?!?!?

I'm gutted at the lack of Best Actor nomination for Clint Eastwood.

I changed my avatar for nothing.

For what?! Playing the same cookey-goth character in Tim Burton's "films"?

Burton used to be great ('Edward Scissorhands', 'Mars Attacks' etc), but is a shitey parody of himself now, same for Depp.

I agree with you on Burton. He hasn't made a decent film since Ed wood and yet is still every goth's hero. (Might have to rewatch Mars Attacks, remeber it being pish apart from Jack Nicholson)

Depp is still a legend in my eyes though. Can't stand pirates of the caribean but he was great in the first one. He was good in that peter pan one too.

As for the Oscars... Can't believe Gomorrah didn't get nominated. It is excellent. Saying that, I haven't seen the other films in the foreign language category.

Whilst we're on the topic... Does anyone remember the Oscars show a few years back presented by Jonathan Ross with guests Ronni Ancona and Rob Brydon? I remember it being one of the most cringeworthy television shows ever. Ancona was acting all pissed up and Brydon was ripping into her at every opportunity while Ross was taking the piss out of Brydon. It totally messed with my head because I couldn't figure out whether it was all just a bit of 'schtick' or whether they all genuinely fell out.
