They're both very good shows but completely different in style.

Whilst The Shield is a lot more in your face kicking down doors style, the Wire is more about the kids on the 'corners' and the surveillance of them. I still recommend it but don't expect the same as The Shield.

4's a bit of a filler building up to 5 which is (as I said) superb

Final series in the Autumn (in America, who knows when Channel 5 will get round to showing it.)

The Shield would be the best cop show for me, although I've only watched half of Season 1 of The Wire so far.

Cheers, Bigsby.......it'll be worth the wait.

I know this is an ignorant question...but is 'The Wire' on council TV, or Freeview? I'd like to check it out, but am not one for watching DVDs of TV shows, for some reason.

The Shield is good, but stick with The Wire - it's a slow starter, but once you get to know the characters (both cop and crim), it's completely unmissable. Not as slam-bang as The Shield, but has just the best script-writing around.

Yeah, I've been enjoying it, just difficult to get Mrs Bigsby to sit through it.

Alan, as far as I'm aware The Wire hasn't been on council telly... although I'm happy to explain how to obtain it free gratis via other means if you like.
