Apparently, I'm not so into comic books these days... my fault not their's. But the first half that I did read in the comic was amazingly true on the screen. It really didn't feel like 3 hrs either. I proper enjoyed this film! If I could criticise, the soundtrack was overloaded with 60s classics. i get that flashback is a huge part of the movie, but it really killed the 80s feel. |

Still good movies, I'd only seen the 3rd one once before and I think I actually enjoyed it more this time. While they all have their daft moments, The Lost World has to take the crown for the sequence near the end where the Tyrannosaur apparently manages to kill everyone on board the ship (the Tyrannosaur can even get at the guy in the wheelhouse, having the ninja style moves to sneak up and get him to the point his hand is still dangling from the controls!) whilst still managing to become shut back in the hold with a dead guys hand on the hatch control preventing it getting out. The end of the 3rd one with the Pterodactyls flying off into the sunset to the apparent approval of all concerned is pretty dumb as well though given that they tried to eat every fucker earlier. Also watched 'Vampire's Kiss' again, I still like it and Nicolas Cage, he is no more of an overactor than John Malkovich in 'Con Air', come on! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | At last got round to seeing Transformers 2, enjoyed it in the brain turned off sense, big robots bashing the crap out of each other is always fun. However, the American sense of World geography raises it's ugly head again, do any of these guys have a clue!!!! Don't get me started on the nit picking regarding the military aspects as well, lucky the good old US of A is the only country in the world with armed forces to save everyone though apart from 2 Jordanian Blackhawks (overflying Cairo!!!!!). Obviously the issue of Egypt having one of the largest and most modern armed forces in the world these days is conveintantly side stepped and don't even get me started with the military operation in Shanghai, WTF!!!!!!! |

Probably the best film I've seen with Seth Rogan (well, Superbad was probably better but that was a supporting role.) The Notorious Bettie Page. Pretty good, but not as good as I thought it would be. 6/10. Not bad, but not great either. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Anvil: The Story Of Anvil For the uninitiated, Anvil were a metal band from back in the day with a brief bit of success (i'd never heard of them either). Whilst Metallica and the like were making millions, they were not so lucky. Skip ahead a few years and they are still plugging away under the radar playing to half empty bars whilst holding down day jobs. Basically, they go on tour and make an album in attempt to capture the recognition they missed out on. What a great film. All those people who watched King of Kong after reading this thread, this is your next documentary to watch. It would have been easy to turn this into a Spinal Tap-esque piss take but as hopeless and comical as these guys are, you never get the sense you're laughing at them, even though it is a funny film. Some genuinely decent guys in the band and you begin to feel it's a real shame they didn't make it. Some brilliant moments of honest emotions that tug the heart strings as well as some out and out comedy (the main guy says at one point: "Yeah it went wrong, disasterously wrong... but at least there was a tour for it go wrong on"). I'd be interested in knowing if anyone had actually heard of/listened to the band before this film was made? |
