Default Factory Records Doc

Did anyone see this documentary on BB4 last night, very interesting profile on this influential but flawed label, charting the rise and fall of Joy Division through to the crazyness of the Happy Mondays

Yes, I saw it... amazing that in the 90 minutes of the documentary they couldn't get anything in there that hadn't been told a thousand times. A good documentary though, brought a tear to my eye in places, seeing Tony Wilson, thinking about his great stories and how he'll never tell any more in person. I lived in a tower block overlooking the Factory offices for a time, and now knowing the Hacienda is a block of poncey flats makes me not want to go back and visit.

I've seen heaps like it before, but i liked this one for the inclusion of and interviews with Martin Hannet and Peter Saville. Fascinating stuff, like. Who else saw the hang glider footage and thought "24 Hour Party People!"????!!!

Stephen Morris' anecdotes involving Wilson were top drawer - They really set the scene.

I really like Paul Morley. His interviews were spot on.

Guy I work with had the unfortunate pleasure of detailing the Hacienda flats - unsavoury business.

This show was also notable for someone coming accross more pretentious than Wilson (who was eveidently ill when this was filmed) - cannae mind exactly how it went but it was a female journalist who used the expression - "They went in thinking they were making another Maxwell's Silver Hammer and came out with quite possibly their Yellow Submarine." It was amazingly wanky!

Well, that's not strictly true: When they were re-telling the old "Blue monday, biggest selling single, etc, etc, losing money etc, etc," story, this time they had Vini Reilly tell it, and to the best of my knowledge, he has never appeared on tv telling that particular story.

I am, of course, being sarcastic.

Seriously though, I don't rememeber ever seeing that interview footage with Martin hannett before. I loved the fact that he was being interviewed whilst holding what appeared to be a replical Magnum (or at least I hope it was a replica...)

Good show, though.

I also liked the fact that Shaun Ryder would come on, ramble incoherently, and then put on a posh English accent, and make perfect sense.

Perhaps the reason he's had so much difficulty kick-starting his 'career' is beacuse he's not been speaking in a plummy English accent?

Get it sorted, Ryder!!!
