Default Sixty Eight new reasons to visit The Moorings. Our mega bottled beer selection.

We've upgraded our selection of bottled beers. There are now up to 68 in stock at any one time. With different beers in each fridge. Don't have a full list typed up yet but they are predominantly genuine imported beers, and we plan on phasing out those remaining 2 that aren't: Budweiser and Stella.

There's beers from all over the world, and a fair old selection of Belgian beers. Bottles range from 200ml up to a 750ml table sized La Chouffe at 8%. Prices go from £1.60 up to £6 something depending on the date, time, size, strength, and quality of the purchase. Most prices start with a two.

The range of fruit beers has also been expanded, we now have: cherry, raspberry, strawberry, peach, banana, coconut, and honey (OK so honey isn't actually a fruit).

As usual student discount and pirate discount are available on all these beers. Oh - and we also have a couple of pirate beers - Piraat from Belgium and Cubarnero Furete for Cuba.

Teabags has taken a shine to Old Scratchy which has a picture of a flea on the front and is brewed in the US.

Will update this thread with more info soon.

A small recommendation for you, if you can get hold of the stuff.

Warka Strong from (where else?) Poland. It's 7%, but tastes like something far weaker that's been watered down with lemonade. I'm a weakling, yet I had to stop myself from throwing it back - it's great for that purpose. Absolutely lethal - but didn't give anything in the way of a hangover.

It's quite common though here, so might not be worth investigating.

(as an aside, this country is ridiculous...it's actually impossible to find a normal beer below 5.2%)

why would you want to drink beer that tastes like it's been watered down with lemonade?

Why phase out Stella? Surely it's a big seller. Not everybody wants to drink imported beers, sometimes people just want something familiar....

Check European law for the explanation on that one.

I think it's Germany taht say anything under 5% is classed as a low alcoholic beverage and not a proper beer.

Oh, and old scratchy has fleas on it, and a Hunter S Thompson quote. yas.

Next Friday the 19th me and Boazy will begin our tasting sesh. It should take us about 5 weekends to get through all of them.

We're keeping Becks Beer for that purpose, and Becks is brewed and bottled in Germany.

Stella has wife beater connotations which we're not keen on. For several years we stocked only imported Stella from Belgium which is a totally different tasting beer in a broadly similar bottle. None of the Stella drinkers noticed. Unfortunately our supply of this dried up.

There are hundreds of other pubs in the town that already stock Stella, Budweiser etc. The world would be boring if everywhere stocked the same stuff!

Over the years our strategy has been to slowly move away from the mainstream. Our business has responded by tripling in size. If it ever starts to shrink then we'll know that we've gone too far

Aye fair points I suppose. Are you ever going to get Moosehead back in? I fucking loved that stuff. Tho I met a Canadian guy once who laughed his ass off when I told him I liked Moosehead and said it's "Canada's joke to the world".

PS I guess I'm one of the Stella drinkers who never noticed
