ACOUSTIC LADYLAND

Acoustic Ladyland are a London based jazz band consisting of Pete Wareham on vocals, tenor and baritone saxophone, Seb Rochford (BBC Jazz Award Best Newcomer in 2004 and of Mercury Prize nominated bands Polar Bear and Basquiat Strings) on drums, Tom Cawley on piano and Ruth Goller on bass guitar, and were winners of the BBC Jazz Award for Best Band 2005.

They formed in 2001 and released their first album Camouflage, an acoustic album inspired by Jimi Hendrix songs, in 2004. The second album, Last Chance Disco (Jazzwise album of the year), an electric set of self-penned compositions, was released in 2005 and their third album Skinny Grin was released on V2 Records in November 2006.

“Over the course of three albums, the Acoustic Ladyland sound has become increasingly hard to define. Is it punk jazz? Is it progressive rock (albeit with no guitar in sight)? Is it pure avant garde experimentalism? Wareham is reluctant to bracket the music into any genre, and it is easy to see why. The result is a group that can surprise and enlighten in equal measure and that will surely continue its rapid rise, most likely reaching cult status over the coming years.” [All About Jazz]

"At their best, Acoustic Ladyland sound like no other band on the planet" [The Guardian]

"One of London's most consistently jaw-dropping live acts… they're on blistering, beautiful form" [Evening Standard]

"Fierce intelligence meets musical fire" [The Independent]
