Bill Hicks was a legend, Goatboy is the single most disturbing comedy invention ever. 'Put your legs over my shoulders and let me wear you like a feedbag...grab hold of my horns.'

Frankie Boyle was a huge disappointment when he played at The Lemon Tree the other week. Most of his material was just taken from Mock The Week and considering that's probably where most of the audience knew him from it seemed a bit cheeky.
Adam Hills is probably my favourite comedian at the moment. Played at the Tree in summer and was just a genuinely lovely guy. No dirty jokes or cheap laughs, he wanted everyone up to dance to Devendra Banhart at the end and stayed for a few drinks after the show which was ace.

Female standups are pretty shit though, most jokes seems to be about being fat (which most are), being female (and all associated things: periods, children, being fat again, sex) and the occasional man bashing. Poor show ladies. Jo Brand is the eptiome of this. I hate her. Jane Garfalo, I think that's how you spell it, is pretty good but there's not much stuff going about.
Black comedians are a similar bugbear. So you're black. Great. So that's a whole career's worth of material is it?

She's one of the worst comedians I've seen in the last 12 months.

I agree.

She's part of the worst line of comedy: the acoustic guitar playing one. Bill Bailey gets away with it, but then he's very tongue in cheek and also very talented.

She was ace.
Now there was a class comedienne.

Josie Lawrence was one of my favourites too.

Excellent. Reading up on him, quite an interesting character. Here's a heap of quotes from Wikipedia, you have to imagine his unique delivery........

Not really a fan of stand up comedy it doesn't make me laugh very much at all

I reckon Gervaise, Kaye, Brand, hicks are not funny at all

My favorites would have to be Tommy cooper,Rich hall, Andy Kauffman, jack dee

George Carlin, rich hall and Andy kauffman are legends in my notebook

you can't beat the old school politically incorrect comedians with huge frilly shirts and massive bow ties - bowen, tarbuck, dawson, carson and manning just ooze comedy class.

I think Phoenix Nights is hilarious. His stand up routine was good the first time I saw it, but he seems to have just one set of jokes (garlic bread, emergency chairs, Bullseye etc).
