Hey there

I have two vocalists. I will be singing earlier pieces from composers such as Mozart, Arne, Handel, etc. I will also be singing some modern art songs and operatic pieces from Rossini and Schubert. The other singer will be concentrating on more jazz/Gershwin standards, more like 40s/50s music.

I also have a clarinettist playing a Mozart Concerto, there are a few other players but they have not confirmed their repertoire with me yet.

I hope you can come along, cheers jayne.

Thumb Up 28-11-2007, 00:06

I for one had a great night!

All the singers were superb and chose some truly beautiful material, and Calum's piano playing was a terrific surprise. A very pleasant change from the norm, so well done to the organisers and I hope they'll be another night like this soon.

Default classical night - 28-11-2007, 13:37

Cheers, I really appreciate your positive feedback.

I will definately organise another classical night, but I think I will leave it until late feb/early March next year. The format will change aswell, I think it should be more like an open mic, and also open up the genres that we play to jazz.

A big thank you to Dr. Tricker for playing the piano, we couldn't do it without him.

Booo. Aren't there dedicated jazz nights already in Aberdeen? Why water down a good idea by inviting that lot?

I was interested in coming to the next classical night (would have came to this one but was skint) as it's a bit different. But I probably wouldn't bother if it's just going to be a jazz open mic.

When did mediocrity and banality become a good image for your children? ... The New Kids! "Hi we're the New Kids and we're so good and clean-cut..." "We're so clean cut!" Seig Heil! Heil! Heil! A good clean country... Heil! Heil! Heil! Fuck that! I want my rock stars dead! I want them to fucking play with one hand and put a gun in their other fucking hand and go "I hope you enjoy the show!" *Bang!* Yes! Yes! Play from your fucking heart!

Now now, a bit of Jazz never hurt anyone. Or a lot of Jazz for that matter!

However, I do take your point. I do reckon it should be primarily classical stuff. Of course, what exactly constitutes "classical" is up for debate. Perhaps more instrumentalists next time, but it was clear to me that that was the intention of the organisers anyway.
