Fitkinwall-Still Warm + Marconi Union
Wed 15th Nov
Doors 8pm
Entry £6,
(Students free with matriculation card)
The Tunnels, Carneigies Brae, Aberdeen.

Fitkin Wall - Still Warm
Graham Fitkin's new work is Still Warm.

Three harps, live and pre-recorded sounds, rhythmic and multi-layered, this
music takes the intimate and beguiling sound of the harp out of its comfort
zone. The familiar sounds of these plucked instruments are meshed into a new
world of pixellated timbres, expanding harmonic plateaux and scattered
beats. Alternating nostalgia, brutality, sensuality, remorselessness - this
brand new score, initiated by notions of disenfranchisement and loss in the
corporate world, passes through shifting soundscapes aurally probing these
ideas. Ruth Wall and Graham Fitkin combine to perform Still Warm. Ruth plays
three harps - the Scottish lever harp, the Irish wire-strung harp and the
buzzing bray harp. Graham mixes and digitally manipulates these sounds live.
It is touring the UK from summer 2006, with premiere performances in August
at The Eden Project, where they also supported MUSE

Marconi Union
Manchester's Marconi Union have for the last few years been making waves in
the world of melodious electronics filtered through numerous influences from
70's classic ambience and krautrock to current day genre hopping
microharmonics ala Robert Lippok. They manage to bring to mind the likes of
Pan American and even Ulrich Schnauss without ever openly copying anyone,
some tracks even hit a post rock techno stance, as weird as it sounds it's
amazingly realised. Their sign off 'A Temporary Life' brings Bohren and Der
Club Of Gore / Angelo Badelamanti to mind via the long saxophone tones.
Elsewhere emotions kept mostly under wraps, only hinted at, a distanced look
at things misunderstood. Operating on electronics with added guitar,
keyboards, and hefty bass. Signed to All Saints via the godlike Brian Eno
who has since asked Marconi Union to oversee remastering his (Eno's) back
catalogue, trust like that doesnt come along everyday.

Latest album biog from Marconi Union..

Quote:
Marconi Union are two musicians from Manchester who have been making music for over 20 years, drawing comparisons with artists such as Sigur Ros, Boards of Canada, Neu and Talk Talk, their sound on this album, has been memorably described as Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here remixed by Basic Channel and is a mix of hypnotic, lush electronica and pulsing rhythms, interwoven with strings, pianos and occasional guitars. Distance revolves around the themes of City Living and Travel, its seven tracks superbly evoke images of airport lounges, hotel lobbies and midnight drives through rain soaked streets. It is a listening album, which reveals new levels every time it is played, evolving from a multi-layered sound-scape, into a compelling musical experience. Musical themes are reworked and regularly reappear throughout the album in different forms adding to the feel of it being a single complete work divided into seven sections. The albums beautiful packaging, and stunning design work by well-known British artist and designer, Nick Robertson has also drawn attention, and been featured in several publications including The Architectural Review. Initial reaction to the album, has been amazing, with it already being hailed in some quarters as an ambient classic

hey its actually Marconi Union, we have played their latest cd @ the last two imp/Sound events & I would agree there is a strong nod toward Boards of Canada with strong hints of Ulrich Scnauss more than anything else. however a written elsewhere their sound is fairly unique. & cannot be easily catorgorised, but is quite wonderful. a really excellent cd & well worth an investment in. will have to look out some of my old Neu & Talk Talk sometime
