from brum equipped with melancholic trickery they come: two harbingers of wistful sprawl named magnétophone. a dream-like duo comprising childhood friends and techno merlins john hanson and matt saunders. magnétophone first delighted with their debut album, i guess sometimes i need to be reminded of how much you love me (4ad) in 2000. it was celebrated both for its expansive, melodic ambience, and for the fact that each track title was invoked by scrabble tiles and a ouija board. magnétophone‚s radiant 2005 follow-up, the man who ate the man, is an equally captivating voyage through psychedelic techno-folk and dulcet introspection. it‚s stellar cast of cameos, (including the breeders‚ deal sisters and triptych 06 associates king creosote and sonic boom both of whom are set to join the duo onstage), is evidence, were it required, of magnétophone‚s quiet genius and enticing charm.

schneider tm launch their new album on city slang / wichita at the show and Anybody fortunate enough to catch their live shows, will know what an absolute treat this band are. Expect serious humour...........

multi-instrumentalist gravenhurst songwriter nick talbot exhibits a shark-like inability to stay still. over the course of four albums the gravenhurst moniker has charted the waters from bedroom melancholy, through acid-folk murder balladry and now, sprawling experimental rock music, suggesting influences as diverse as my bloody valentine, slint, richard thompson and the velvet underground. recorded with drumming mainstay david collingwood, the new album is a definitive statement that will challenge many people‚s conception of the band.

Erm, do UB40's even exist anymore?

It's a bit crap for those of us out there who were smart enough to save money up when employed so that we don't need to claim benefits when unemployed :\

quite, but its really great that a promotor offers a discount which
I shall take up..after all the Lemon Tree gives exactly the same
discounts plus a regulars discount on all their own shows. Despite
loving live music, I can only afford to go to a few choice events a month & any saving means I can actually increase my attendance.
This is a fantastic line up & I again applaud the promotors
for this initative.

Can you pay on the door if you don't fit either of those categories?

So there's a discount for students/unwaged, AND a ticket from this will get you into Barzin for half-price? Kudos.

Only a couple of days to go now.

being on the emaillist, my understanding is
1. if you are waged & buy your Triptych ticket in advance you will get into Barzin 1/2 price.
2. if you are unwaged or a student & pay on the door you will get a £4discount.

so you can't get both?

If so, I still think that is very very nice & they should be applauded for
giving something back to everyone who goes to see their excellent events

No, not both, you can't be both waged and unwaged. I knew I'd get confused. No door duty for me!
