Triptych 06:
Kool Keith & Kutmasta Kurt + guests (Corallo for sure and possibly Ala Fu and Isho too) Wednesday 26 April The Lemon Tree Tickets £12 + £1.50 b/fee Box Office: 01224 642230 Doors Open: 8pm Show Starts: 8pm Kool Keith & Kutmaster Kurt onstage at 9.15pm One of hip-hop's most prolific and innovative talents, erudite rapid-fire rapper Kool Keith's resumé reads like a historic account of the genre: he's a founder member of legendary mid-80s Bronx trailblazers Ultramagnetic MCs; he's the man whose pseudonyms include Dr Octagon, Black Elvis, Dr Dooom (and about a dozen others); he's the man whose celebrated collaborations include Beck, the Prodigy, DJ Shadow and Dan the Automator (Gorillaz). Universally acclaimed as one of the most distinctive individuals in hip-hop, Kool Keith's strident delivery and singular narratives are bulldozed by boundary-crashing momentum: his unique, unequalled freak aesthetic nods to astral jazz maverick Sun Ra, tribal sci-fi overlord Afrika Bambaataa and Detroit techno pioneer Carl Craig, as much as it does to traditional rap. This forceful combination - and the outstanding, assertive canon thereof - renders Keith among our most valued and versatile rappers. Proliferant West Coast hip-hop hero and ardent midas Kutmasta Kurt has cast his platinum, wax scratching magic on the Beastie Boys, Dilated Peoples, Blackalicious and Mos' Def. But it's his abiding alliance with incalculable rap star Kool Keith for which he's most acclaimed. It's a cardinal partnership that has proved ceaselessly inventive since their first collaborations over ten years ago: they worked together on Keith's Dr Octagon, Black Elvis and Dr Dooom projects amongst others - and it's with Keith that Kurt is set to ignite Triptych. Also a daredevil remixer, DJ and solo producer, Kurt released the ace Redneck Games epistle last year. His striking armory of livid beats and clamorous samples and resilient rhythms continue to define him as one of the underground's most incredible, insightful and in-demand figures. http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event...39&tempmonth=4 |
