Default Unkle Bob's singer/songwriter Rick Webster @ Drummonds, Tues 20 Dec.

Rick Webster, singer/songwriter from Glasgow's Unkle Bob, takes his influences from the mighty singer-songwriters of the early 1970s such as Nick Drake, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Tim Buckley, Cat Stevens, John Martyn, and David Bowie.

“In a world looking for the next fashion, the outstanding Unkle Bob might well turn out to be the norm” The List 50 Best Scottish bands of all Time (New Talent)

Their sound has been descirbed as "the musical equivalent of the last warm bath you'd take before cutting your wrists" (Guardian) but Unkle Bob insist that it is all about the writing of good songs.

An early debut appeared in May 2003 which captured something of the band’s early promise and helped raise their profile with airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Scotland, Beat 106. In February 2005 they released “The Hit Parade” EP and undertook a 16-date tour of Ireland and Scotland.

“[The Hit Parade EP] shows astonishing potential for songwriting that is genuinely moving.” Music Week March 2005

In April 2005 Unkle Bob signed to a London-based management company run by ex-James guitar/violinist Saul Davies and Aaron Moore (EMI, Ministry of Sound). They continued to play across the UK, including their first ever shows in London at Fierce Panda backed Club Fandango and at the ICA (supporting Joy Zipper).

Over summer 2005, UB performed shows at The Wireless Festival in London, T in the Park in Scotland and played over 20 dates in Scotland and Ireland including the UK’s leading showcase event, IN THE CITY in Manchester. The band are currently working on their official debut album scheduled for release next year.

"Rick Webster’s expressive voice and a repertoire of tuneful happy-sad songs recalls the likes of Nick Drake [...] compelling to listen to" The Scotsman (Jan 05)

"a singer who sounds like Nick Drake whispering secrets into Ray Davies' ear, plus he possesses an enviable stash of country-folk heartbreakers." Scotland on Sunday (Nov 04)
