World-renowned DJ/remixer/producer Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez is one of dance music’s true legends. Along with MAW partner, “Little” Louie Vega, these two have been responsible for literally hundreds of original productions, remixes and side projects since 1990. Throw in three GRAMMY nominations, an “Outstanding Contribution” Award at the 2002 US Dancestar Awards and collaborations with the likes of DJ Jazzy Jeff, Tito Puente, Roy Ayers, Todd Terry, and more, MAW are top of the heap as far as house music is concerned. Their remixes are sought after by the elite…Madonna, Janet Jackson, her lesser-known brother, Michael…and dozens more.
Kenny Dope’s work ethic is incredible and he also manages to oversee two record labels, MAW Records and Dope Wax. Known for having an eclectic musical style, from salsa to rare-groove, hip-hop to disco, Kenny Dope’s love of soulful house has seen him command his own Defected “In The House” mix compilation, and the respect other DJ’s hold for him has seen his tracks appear on the DJ-Kicks and Nu Cool 4 compilations. Recent projects include “Nuyorican Soul” (MAW), “…Presents The Mad Racket” (Atlantic Records) and a remix on last year’s “Blue Note Revisited”.
This is a rare opportunity to see a genuine A-list DJ in Aberdeen.
