those are some pretty damn good points made, they seem very true and tie in with some horror stories from friends coming off tour- i'll keep them in mind and will be sure not to make any of those mistakes!

hah erm modern touring idea sounds kinda bake, not all of us can afford to tour like that!
think about how awkward it'd be to humph around all the gear you're taking (guitars, bags, etc) onto public transport. also you can't be sure that venues will lend you what you need

thanks for this thread i'll bear it in mind for when i go touring

Default Beware of low ceilings

All excellent stuff....one other piece of advice....

Beware of low ceilings

I played a gig at one small venue and forgot how low the ceiling was (the higher than usual stage didnt help). Mid guitar riff, I jump in the air, only to smack my head off a light fitting (breaking the bulb and fitting). Much laughter, then applause as I kept playing with blood running down my face!

I was always more careful of obstacles and fixtures after that!

Default anybody fancy working as hard as Chuck Berry

I was just re-reading the excellent Aberdeen Music "Touring Tips" article when I received an e-mail with this picture of Chuck Berry performing in Brazil yesterday.

Chuck still keeps a busy touring schedule despite being 82 in October.

Do any musicians on this Forum think they will still be performing when they reach their eighties?

Check this itinerary for the start of last year when Chuck did 16 shows in 18 days and had massive hops from St Louis to Moscow to Ireland to France .........to Spain to Las Vegas to Illinois etc etc.

15.01.07 - St. Louis, MO - Blueberry Hill
17.01.07 - Moscow, Russia - B-1 Maximum
18.01.07 - Belfast, Northern Ireland - Waterfront Hall
19.01.07 - Istanbul, Turkey Hilton Convention Center20.01.07 - Paris, France - Olympia21.01.07 - Bordeaux, France
22.01.07 - Toulouse, France Halle Aux Grains23.01.07 - Hamburg, Germany 24.01.07 - Leipzig, Germany Leipzig Arena25.01.07 - Malmo, Sweden - Baltiska Hallen
26.01.07 - Goteborg, Sweden 27.01.07 - Copenhagen, Denmark Amager Bio28.01.07 - Stockholm, Sweden Berns29.01.07 - Bilbao, Spain Bizkaia
two days off (apart from travelling from Spain to Las Vegas)
01.02.07 - Las Vegas, NV MGM Grand Garden Arena
02.02.07 - Alton, IL Alton Belle Casino
