EDIT: Um yeah, what Chris said. The TV licensing website says it's only if you're watching it as it's being broadcast that you need one. If you watch it on the net after it's fine. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | typically i notice students buying the same messages as what their parents have brought them up on. for example don't buy cravendale milk because mummy bought it for you for your cornflakes, nothing wrong with normal milk and cheaper. same with the likes of warburton seeded batch loaf, god know fit price it is now but seriously paying over £1 for a loaf of bread is a joke! even over 50p is a joke in my book. Don't buy micro meals, they are dear and taste gash. try and freeze the food you buy, i noticed id buy too much food and not get round to eating it and then have to throw it out because it went bad. buy a large box of washup powder, will last fucking ages and saves money in thelong run buy energy saving light bulbs, set up the timer so your boiler is only running when you need it to, turn down radiators dont have them full blast, and turn down the ones you dont need, like the one in the bathroom halway kitchen, if its cold close the door, although rate wise, paying quarterly bills for gas/electricty is cheaper but nae really ideal for students, ask your landlord about getting a meter installed, I've used them all my time living on my own, you can never run up a bill that you wont be able to pay and you only pay for what you use. downside they require you to top up if you want energy and many times i've forgot to check how much i had left ,and came back to a hoose wi no electric, nae fine. dont sign up to sky, waste of money. get on good terms with your neighbours (if possible) so many of my friends have neighbours and they ignore them like strangers and vice versa. reason for this is, say if you are playing guitar a tad loud and they have had enough of the din coming through the wall, they will be more likely to come and ask politely you to stop, rather than phoning the fuzz or complaing to your landlord. same if something goes wrong you need help or a favor, always good to know thatyou could ask your neighbour. like parcels getting dropped off for you, offer help to them in return switch off lights in rooms your not using, if your browsing the net donthave the telly on in the back ground - turn it off dont fill your kettle to the brim if your only making one cup of coffee/tea dont get a credit card. pay your council tax |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | another reason i fucking hate students, I've worked since i left school yes i have missed the odd payments for council tax, but they never forget what you owe them. so currently scott and co have me by the balls paying it all back. Why should they be exempt? because they choose to get themselves into heaps of debt by going to uni, but its ok for them, they dont have pay back untill they are earning a certain amount! why is it acceptable to go to uni make a giant pit of debt for yourself an then to spend the best part of your career getting out of it? but i miss a week of rent and i got baylifts banging on the door |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If you're getting the bus everyday to uni then go for a month pass... that way you'll have paid it at the beginning of the month and then you'll at least get there (if you plan on going). Try not eat out too often or takeaways. And... take up your mum's offer of Sunday Lunch or to do your washing - but only if she asks!!! General stuff like switching things off when you don't need them, don't leave things on standby, put heating on a timer. Don't go out and buy a heap of uni books when you get book lists. Waste of money if you find you'll never use them. Make sure that you have all the essentials paid for when you get your wages/student loan and then you can budget what you have left for the rest of the month. Always think 'what if' though and maybe make sure there's a contingency. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I second the not buying any books thing. The second week of my uni course we got told we'd need a book. Waited a week, then (under pressure from my much more studious mate) went and got the book. The very next day, uni announced one of the oil companies had donated however many copies of that book, and we could all pick up our free copies. I never even used the fucker. |
