Scotland's 'aggressive' Punk beer faces ban - News, Food & Drink - The Independent

fucking joke to be honest. i can't see how they can honestly believe that a company specialising in real ale can be promoting irresponsible drinking when there's much much worse out there.

bah.

I read the article, then came across this fascinating feature:

The Ten Best Blouses - Features, Fashion - The Independent

The whole thing is a bit of a farce - anyone who is drinking their products are hardly the sort of folk who indulge in mindless violence.

Did they take into account how much it would cost to get hammered on Punk IPA? It ain't cheap...

This is total bollocks. Your average appreciator of fine ales is not the same Tennents-fuelled drunken teenager that pisses through your letterbox on a Saturday night.

I don't like the style of their advertising/marketing, but this really is disgraceful.

Also remember that Portman expressly allows some of its members to do what it forbids everyone else.

when they promoted their ban on alcohol advertising on kids replica shirts, they left one out - Carlsberg, on Liverpool gear. Of course, Carlsberg's parent just happens to own one of the Portman Group's members - Scottish & Newcastle.

Life must be nice when you are one of the cunts on the other side of the fence where the rules don't apply?

They have been given some legal control over advertising & media exposure. Don't think they can do anything about sales in non-member places.

The Portman Group themselves were formed as a pretty desperate attempt to deflect stricter legal controls on the big drinks companies - back in the days when they were targeting kids with alcopop advertising. the "pre-drinking" market if you will.
