That's pretty much the basis of all GTA games, you never played them?

You start off small time and what you describe is pretty much what you do, if anything the story line should atleast keep you going. That's the kinda thing you want to do online with friends in a free roam. If you guys can't even progress very far into the game yet based on how it plays then I'd hate to think how many FPS games you have missed out on.

Edit - As you progress you'l find yourself doing loads more. The variety and comedy city should atleast give you a twitch in your balls for this game.
10 mins? hardly.

i've played a fair whack of the sinlge player, yet most of the missions seem to follow that trend of drive somewhere, pickup, drivesomewhere else then waste some guys.

I'll trust you that it must get alot more differernt soon....

and i have played every GTA game. But i just find this one slightly overhyped for what it is.

Having played through a massive chunk of the story I have to say the main missions are pretty much as described. Drive somewhere, kills people, drive back.

But the real variety comes from the side missions, racing, dating, socialising, police missions, fire missions, ambulances, drug trafficking, taxi fares, finding stunt jumps, hidden packages etc. Then there's the multiplayer.

None of this is a million miles away from previous games but I think the hype is because it's reaching that triple distilled state of perfection. They're tweaking the formula with every iteration and the game has achieved such a large scope and managed to fit so much in and done it very, very well that it's hard not be amazed at the game as a whole.

The only thing about the game I dislike is the long drives from the start of a mission to the actual meat and bones of it. Can get really annoying later on when you're certain to die 3 times before you figure out the right strategy
Spoiler:
Elizabetta hospital mission, I'm looking at you with your "assault a building full of drug dealers then escape from an army of police" shenanigans

But even then the fact you can just read a text message to instantly restart a mission is a vast improvement on the GTAs of old where you had to drive all the way back to the character who gave you it.

When did mediocrity and banality become a good image for your children? ... The New Kids! "Hi we're the New Kids and we're so good and clean-cut..." "We're so clean cut!" Seig Heil! Heil! Heil! A good clean country... Heil! Heil! Heil! Fuck that! I want my rock stars dead! I want them to fucking play with one hand and put a gun in their other fucking hand and go "I hope you enjoy the show!" *Bang!* Yes! Yes! Play from your fucking heart!

Eaaaa-sy Tiger!

You're taking my post too seriously!

The game is a wonderfully put together piece of software, visually stunning (the city is awesome) with some really clever touches (e.g. character flying out the windscreen).

However, I think the game has been over-hyped and is nothing more than a better looking "Liberty City" with sprinkles & a new hat (spot the Simpson reference!).

In actual fact, I played it for an hour and thought - meh - it just didn't grab my testicles!

Having said that, as one of this site's older farts, maybe the game needed to reach a bit lower to grab them!!

I guess the real reason though, is that I'm finally outgrowing this kind of entertainment???

And, no, I would not let young kids near it.

The random stuff is whats keeping me amused. Trying to escape the police on a motorcycle while totally hammered never fails to amuse me.

Fair enough. I agree it's been over hyped, every big title is nowadays

Actually, I owe this game an apology.

I had some rare free time at the weekend and was all practiced out, so I decided to give GTA IV one last spin before punting it.

15 minutes later and I'm hooked.

The graphics are stunning and the gameplay is really addictive.

It is a retread of Liberty City, but I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Glad to hear it.

I think we have established then all the doubters need to play this for 15mins atleast lol, not 5 or 10 as mentioned in the thread previously.
