it's still pretty hard to image the "reality" - and that's the moral of the story, surely...
for the things people can not truly conceive - we make stuff up to fit our imagination of it (some people would add "till we can prove it (or not)" - some are just happy to stop 2000 years ago in their thinking)

This week's (or maybe now last week's) New Scientist had a good article on evolution, disproving a lot of the usual nonsense that creationists spout.

You can say anything. They WILL have an argument against it. They are so blinkered it's unbelievable.

Heh, it's quite satisfying to see Christianity becoming more of a crazy cult.

Funnily enough, you don't see many reports of Jewish figures getting chubbies over Darwin in the press. I don't get it.

It seems to be a peculiarly american thing. These people, like the israeli-flag-waving rapture-believing "christians united for israel" (YouTube - Rapture Ready: The Christians United for Israel Tour) should really be a lunatic fringe but it seems that in the usa there is a lot of money in manipulating these gullible people for political ends.

I caught part of an interview with a pakistani scientist on radio4 the other day, talking about musharraf and how when he came to power, the decision was taken to "islamicise" all the sciences being taught. He talked about how they would organise scientific conferences and debate how to calculate the temperature of hell etc.
America has it's own madrassas and they are breeding their own form of ideological bigotry, and just like in the east, people in power (or who want to be in power) are using that for their own political means.
