I represent Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation which is a charity that funds research into a cure for type 1 diabetes.

On Sunday 17th September at Hazlehead Park in Aberdeen we are having our biggest fundraiser of the year which is the Scottish Walk to Cure Diabetes. We normally have around 2,000 people take part and this year we hope to raise £200,000.

We need volunteers to help us make the day a great success and to make sure it all runs smoothly.

We Need:

Route Marshals (standing around the route making sure people walk in the right direction)
Drinks Tent Volunteers (pouring tea, coffee and juice)
T Shirt Tent Volunteers (exchanging vouchers for free t shirts)
Check In Tent (checking in all walkers)

All volunteers get breakfast, a barbecue, ice cream, drinks and a t shirt as a small thank you for being part of our Walk Team.

About JDRF & Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder that adversely affects the body's ability to manufacture and utilise insulin, a hormone necessary for the conversion of food into energy. Over 1.5 million people in the UK have diabetes, a quarter of whom have to endure many painful finger-prick blood test an insulin injections every day of their life - just to stay alive. However, insulin is not a cure but an imperfect treatment. Diabetes attacks most of the major organs. It is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness and non-traumatic amputations and a leading cause of nerve damage, stroke and heart attacks; a condition that reduces the sufferer's life expectancy by an average of 15 years.

Type 1 diabetes mainly strikes in children and is not related to obesity. Children with type 1 diabetes are insulin dependent for their entire lives.

Here in Scotland we currently have the 5th highest incidence of type 1 diabetes in the world, and over £320,000,000 is spent by the NHS on diabetes and it's care each year.

Please help us work towards a cure.
