I'm off to a gig this weekend in London. It's in Elephant and Castle.
Anyone recommend a hotel which is convenient for there, in a safe area and cheap? Budget = to 70 per night.

You should look on: expedia.com .... lastminute.com ... hotels-london.co.uk

The prices are pretty variable depending on when you are looking to go.. but yeah, those sites are pretty good, and you can order your results in price order so it's pretty easy to find what you are looking for!

Try www.laterooms.com as well... I got a hotel in Kensington there once for about £52 a night, for two people.

Expedia usually have really good rates on rooms. I went down to see kanye west at the theatre royal in feb and managed to get a room for 2 nights in the west india quay marriott (5* place the spurs players all got ill at!) plus return flight from glasgow to heathrow for £115!

If you're looking for safe, anywhere near Elephant & Castle's probably a no-no. It's a shithole.

Waterloo's not too far away (10/15 minutes walk), London Bridge is about 20 minutes walk away, only one tube station away from either, so see if there's anything around there.

There is also a hostel just off Walworth Road (Amelia Street, I think), which is about 2 minutes from E & C, so if you're feeling adventurous...There's a police station right next door anyway

London gigs generally finish very early so you need not have to stay that close to where the gig is as you can still get the tube or a bus. There are three Travelodges within 5 mins of Kings Cross that we use regularly. We pay in the region of £10-£26 per room per night. You may be too late for these prices though.

London doesn't sleep till about 8am so just find an all night cafe and catch some kip on the way back up to Aberdeen. Cheapest / Safest option!
