There was an Aberdeen band called Edson (for the same reason) years ago, I think some of them eventually went on to morph into Floored.
I think I played for them a few times, not sure though.

The most obvious ones have been covered - on a similar but divergant theme, how about bands named after cyclists? I can think of The Delgados and Abdoujaparov...

Dont know where the name comes from, but there was a band in the 80s called Sultans Of Ping FC.

I always assumed Sultans Of Ping FC took their name from the Dire Straits song "Sultans Of Swing"....
