Default somersault and film buffs

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381429/board/threads/

i saw somersault recently

i thought it was real cool, nicely shot, very poetic and just generally really nice story

some films buffs ripped it to shredds... not to mention lantana (probably the only two aus films i can think of right now)

can you really get to a stage where you've studied something so much that you have this really accute film taste?

i mean they had a go at 'usual suspects'... its a popular film, and everything... i didnt thnk it was all that bad..

poor film school people

ps i thought robots was alright.. anyone else?

We have a trailer sfor Somersault on "UGC TV" at work and it always makes me want to see it. But I don't think we're showing it.

If I ever get a full day off I'll check it out but I can't afford to pay those nonsense Belmont prices when I see everything else for cheap (read free).

What is the point putting a trailer on for something that they aren't showing? Kinda defeating the purpose, no?

Wrong. We show trailers for up and coming films that UGC are showing and then we don't find out until later on whether we're getting them or not. We've only got 9 screens and, of course, everyone wants to watch shit like Hostage over films that are actually interesting. So really, we're doing the Belmont a favour because we show trailers to our customers and then they go there. Ha.

So what you actually mean is, yes it is defeating the purpose.

Well no, because if we get a film that wasn't advertised then nobody will want to see it.
