Default Proper use of a semi-colon!

What is the proper use of a semi-colon. From what I can remember, which is quite vague, its used to (maybe) contrast two ideas or introduce a new point..

Care to enlighten me?

Semi-colon:
stronger comma for lists - she danced all night; slept all morning and dreamt all day.

to lead to the conclusion - Everybody had their own opinion, each individual had offered elaborate speculation but it was the judge's job to reach a decision; and there the buck stopped.

hope this helps

If you do a Hulk Hogan, you can have a scene point.

Use it in place of a co-ordinating conjunction; this avoids over-complexity.
Use it along with a conjunctive adverb; thereby improving clarity.
Use it in a sentence sentence that involves listed items, but for which the listed items themselves have several modifiers already separated by commas.
