Default Covering letters

I've printed off a few copies of my CV to hand into various places but they also said to include a covering letter. Is a covering letter the same as a personal statement? Please help!

No. A covering letter just says 'Hi, my name is Dawn and I'm employing for the position as lap-dancer in your strip-bar, as advertised in the Press & Journal. Enclosed is a copy of my CV and a pair of used panties. Should you require anything else, please don't hesitate to get in touch.'

i thought a covering letter was what you got from a doctor to give to your teacher/employer to say you were sick last time you took a day off

Often folk are looking for a hand written cover note, if the CV is typed up... Although usually they do stipulate a hand written cover note.
