hey, our router is fucked and we need a new one

whats the deal? can we just buy any wireless router from comet (for example) and just plug it in? how does it work and how do we make it work once we get one?

we know nothing between us

Is it a modem/router?

If so best advice is to get a ADSL 2 modem router.

if that means, does it connect us to the internet? then yes/sometimes when if feels like it, other times it is just a box we cant keep anything in

No, you probably can't just plug it in and go. You need to know your ADSL username and password at the minimum (and this may not be the same as your email address/password - hope you kept the documentation from your ISP) - everything else (like IP addressing etc.) is generally automatic (but in case you need to know, VPI/VCI is generally 0/38 in the UK)

we have a note of our wireless network name and wireless key/password

so are we cool to buy for expamle this

i should have metioned we have one laptop and one desktop both on vista and both are currently connected wirelessly

Who do you get your Internet from, ie talktalk, sky, BT, orange as you will need the details to set it up (usually shoving in who you get Internet from and the modem will give you the correct settings, bar your username/password).
The one you linked to is capable of supporting old, current and future ADSL standards so should be good, you will need to connect via a wire to set it up, but there's a cd that will take you through all that.

You need to buy a router that configs with your net. best thing is to ask the folk in the shop, or sometimes they have it all on the back of the box
